Angus Convention in the Lone Star State
Head to Fort Worth, Texas, Nov. 4-6 to attend the American Angus Association’s premier event.
The Western ranching spirit is alive and well in Fort Worth, Texas.
Whether visiting the historic stockyards and catching the daily cattle drive or exploring the rich history and heritage preserved downtown — it’s a location that brings out an appreciation and respect for the nation’s cattlemen and women, past and present.
So it’s fitting that the American Angus Association would choose to host the year’s premier event in the Lone Star State. The Angus Convention is a gathering place for all quality-minded cattle producers and friends from every sector of the cattle business and offers industry-leading education, networking and entertainment.
The first weekend in November, Angus breeders, commercial cattlemen and allied industry partners will join together to learn and set a vision for the future, participate in the organization’s Annual Meeting, take in the trade show, and enjoy the cowboy culture Fort Worth, Texas, has to offer.
“We want to invite each and every one of you to the 2017 Angus Convention in Fort Worth, Texas,” said American Angus Association Board Member James Henderson of the Bradley 3 Ranch near Memphis, Texas. “It’s a great time to renew friendships and do the business of the Association, and we as Texans want to welcome you to Fort Worth.”
Nearly 2,000 cattlemen and women attended the 2016 Angus Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., and the American Angus Association looks forward to a growing crowd for this year’s event. The downtown convention center will be host to activities and events Nov. 4-6, including the expansive trade show.
Before the official start of the convention on Friday, Nov. 3, the Texas Angus Association will host the National Angus Tour, where participants will spend a day exploring the area’s Angus operations and related sites. The tour is always a fan favorite at the Angus Convention, and the perfect way to start the weekend’s Angus events.
“Texas is home to the largest cow herd in the United States,” Henderson said. “We have cattle feeders, stockers, cow-calf operators — virtually all facets of the cattle industry are located here, and so we’re excited that we get to showcase Texas.”
During the Angus Convention, guests will hear from keynote speakers that inspire forward thinking and vision for the future of the quality beef business through Angus University, sponsored by Merck Animal Health. In breakout sessions, practical applications are shared on topics ranging from cattle health and management, to understanding genomics and evolving technology.
The International Genomics Symposium, sponsored by Neogen GeneSeek Operations, will feature presenters, academic professionals and industry leaders who will explore how producers can apply new ideas to their home operations.
On the trade show floor, guests will be welcomed by allied industry partners, fellow Angus breeders and others with product offerings to benefit today’s progressive cattle producer. Another stellar workshop series from Zoetis will be featured, as well as prize giveaways and Certified Angus Beef® brand meals served throughout the event.
Angus breeders receive exclusive booth discounts, and those interested in reserving space can visit the trade show section of the website.
“The trade show has been very successful,” Henderson said. “Most of the vendors that I’ve talked to have said that they do more business at our trade show than any other, because you have serious cattlemen here doing serious business.”

The Angus Convention offers plenty of time for attendees to get to know one another, celebrate the Angus breed, and dream and plan for the future. A concert featuring the state’s own country music group Asleep at the Wheel is planned for Sunday, Nov. 5, Registration and hotel reservations open July 1, and more information will be available online at www.angusconvention.com.
“The American Angus Association’s convention gets better every year,” Henderson said. “Come on down to Fort Worth, Texas. It’s in a central part of the country and is known as being where the West begins. We’re going to make it the best yet.”
 
Annual Convention of Delegates
An important part of the Angus Convention each year is conducting business on behalf of the nearly 25,000-member organization. This year marks the 134th Annual Convention of Delegates for the American Angus Association, where representatives from each state will elect new members and officers to the Board of Directors, and look to the future for the Angus breed.
Plans are already under way for the Annual Meeting, and the first step is nominating Angus leaders to serve as voting delegates for their respective state or district.
Each eligible voting member of the American Angus Association was mailed a nomination form, and was asked to select one member who would be a successful delegate to the national meeting. Signed nomination forms must be received in the Association office no later than 4:30 p.m. CDT on Friday, June 9.
