NWSS Breeder Spotlight – Purple Reign Cattle Company

Mullinex
How many years have you attended the NWSS?
20
Why do you attend these Major Shows?
Major shows are our best form of advertisement and to get cattle in the public eye and interact with the public.
What sires are for you currently using in your operation?
Womanizer and Milsap are cutting a pretty good swath and doing a lot of winning along with their daughters that are raising cattle that are winning.
Do you think the Hereford breed has changed? If so how? And do you think it’s for better or worse?
Improvement has been exponential in the past 8 – 10 years from within by combining and complimenting the horned and polled cattle and creating heterosis. This has made for a lot of improvement within the breed to make better Herefords.
Purity within the breed will keep the cattle strong in the commercial sector to provide heterosis and a pure line.
What do you enjoy about the Hereford Breed?
The people – a lot of people have been in it for generations and the new people getting involved have a great impact on the breed.
I also like the predictability of the cattle, even when not perfect they will still produce a great calf, as well as the docility Hereford cattle provide.
Overall, Herefords have a lot of assets to offer the entire beef business.
If you had to pick another breed to show what one would it be and why?
Red Angus and Charolais right now – they are breeds that also have predictability and have maintained purity while still providing heterosis in a commercial sense. These breeds remind me of where Herefords were 3 – 5 years ago, and I see a lot of room for growth in the coming years – I actually already have a few of them on the way.
What is your favorite thing about the NWSS?
To see the Hereford people from all over the world and the stage that Herefords have. There are a lot of national shows, but Denver is the one place that everybody goes
What is your favorite Sullivan Supply Product?
I use kleen sheen for every day use– it’s a basic necessity for everyday as well as the red plastic combs, but maybe the volumizer soap is better – I think that’s also really really good.
