Best of the Barns Show Mom of the Year | Lucy Guyer
Being a mom is not an easy job, but being a show mom is at a completely other level. It takes a special kind of lady to be able to be a show mom. The pay may not be great and the days may be long, but it is a special job that she absolutely loves… most days. After this years Best of the Barns voting results came in it is really no surprise why Lucy Guyer, of Robinson, Illinois, was voted Show Mom of the Year. She is adored by many and an awesome mom and show mom to her daughters, Ashtin and Nalaney. Lucy has a strong passion for the livestock industry and that is what makes her an ideal show mom.
Lucy Guyer truly is a Superwoman. Her role in Guyer Cattle Company is one you typically do not see a mom playing. Lucy takes care of the hogs and cattle everyday, gets things ready for shows, packs the trailer, puts down bedding for the cows, and puts hay out. Most of the time she is by herself to do chores, but she would not trade it for the world. When Lucy and her husband Dave caught wind of Lucy being nominated and people were voting for her, she truly felt honored. Dave and her daughters are very proud that they get to call the Show Mom of the Year their wife and mother.
Maisie Langholff had the opportunity to work for Guyer Cattle Company and side by side with Lucy this summer and fall. She loved every minute of it. She admires and looks up to Lucy. Maisie stated “I started working for the Guyer family right after I graduated in May. They took me in and treated me just like another daughter. Lucy was there every single day with me and I was fortunate enough to witness a women who is not just the toughest human being I have ever met, but also a woman who is teaching her daughters they are just as tough as her. Lucy puts everything she has into the livestock and her girls, and always makes sure everything is taken care of before herself. I can’t speak enough about Lucy and how well deserving she is to be Show Mom of the Year.”

Lucy strives to be a role model for her girls. She continuously teaches them to treat others how they want to be treated, be honest, have faith, and that they need to give respect and to be respected. The bond between Lucy and her girls is strong and the bond grows even stronger in the show barn. “There is no harder working woman we know. She gives up everything to help us succeed in the show ring, and always puts her family first. If it comes down to it, she would stay home and do chores while the rest of us go to the show. All we can say is thank you for being the best show mom, because if it were not for her we wouldn’t be where we are today!” says daughter, Ashtin. There is not a more deserving individual than Lucy Guyer to be the 2018 Best of the Barns Show Mom of the Year, and her friends and family can truly attest to that.
