Great Stock Show Story
DENVER- In the final days of the National Western Stock Show, Peyton Huss, 16, decided not to show her own prospect steer. Instead she showed her friend Adam Ginther’s steer. Ginther, 16, recently passed away following a dirt bike accident.
“He’s probably smiling down because he got his steer to show at the stock show,” said a shy Huss, who is not particularly interested in the attention she’s getting for the selfless move.
Huss has spent the past couple of weeks doing what Adam was doing before the accident. She has been grooming the prospect steer for the big show because she wasn’t going to let Adam’s hard work fall by the wayside.
“I just try to think of all the good things that happened and keep pushing through,” she said.
It’s been a tough few weeks. Adam crashed his dirt bike in December causing brain trauma. He spent 25 days in a coma and died on Jan. 6. His family didn’t think they’d make it to the stock show this year. Peyton’s actions changed their mind.
“Peyton has given that to us. She’s got us back down here and got us into something somewhat normal and something that he certainly enjoyed. And because he did, we can enjoy it again,” said Brett Ginther, Adam’s father.
Peyton knew Adam would want her to be strong. She said she didn’t want to cry today. She wore a picture of Adam in her bib while showing off the steer Adam left behind.
